The present paper proposes a novel design for studying fundamental propagation properties such as endlessly single mode, zero dispersion, and high nonlinearity in a solid core holey photonic crystal fiber (PCF). The full-vectorial finite element method with perfectly matched layer is used to investigate the propagation properties. The high numerical aperture, single mode property, zero dispersion, small effective area, and controlled nonlinear properties of the solid core holey PCF are studied for the telecommunication window by adjusting the air hole diameter and the hole to hole center spacing or pitch.
