Understanding the Relationships between Recreation Experience and Perception to Management Actions in Forestry Settings Using Qualitative Approach

The most prevalent approach to understand recreation experience of visitors of forestry areas has been using quantitative approaches. However, these approaches are often constrained by the content and format of constructed questionnaire. This research employed a qualitative approach to gain more depth and breadth in understanding the context of experience and to identify the relationships between recreation experiences and management actions. Fourteen semi-structured interviews were conducted to understand their recreation experiences and perceptions to management actions. Findings suggest that more visitors were aware of management actions, which had great influence on their recreation experiences. The quality of recreation experience could be secured if the forestry managers could provide better interpretation service and well maintenance of recreation facilities. More importantly, those management actions should be carried out in a decisive manner thoroughly.
