The Functions of Vitamin E and Its Effects on Breeder Chickens

維生素E之功能及對種雞之影響

摘要


維生素E起始所認知為存在飼糧中的動物營養因子,對動物之正常繁殖尤其重要,當今維生素E已是眾所皆知之抗氧化劑。然而,高劑量維生素E 可能導致反效果,所謂的促氧化作用。維生素E在繁殖上的作用可能與其在荷爾蒙分泌及抗氧化系統上有關。維生素E亦被指出與免疫功能有關。雖然大部分研究對象為哺乳動物,但在雞之研究顯示,飼糧中添加維生素E對繁殖亦有正面影響。在實際飼養上,以玉米大豆粕飼糧不額外添加維生素E 並不易導致雞隻缺乏症狀,然而,種雞長期(52週)不添加維生素E,與添加維生素E者比較,可能導致繁殖功能降低。種母雞飼糧添加適量維生素E可改善產蛋率、孵化率及受精率;種公雞飼糧添加維生素E可改進精液品質但對授精能力沒有影響。維生素E對繁殖之機制尚有許多需進一步的研究去釐清。

Vitamin E was originally considered a dietary factor of animal nutrition especially important for normal reproduction. Nowadays, it is a well-known antioxidant. However, high doses of vitamin E may have adverse effects that have been reported as pro-oxidant activity. Vitamin E's effects on reproduction might be related to its effect on hormone synthesis and the antioxidant system. The immune function has also been addressed. Although most of the research was in mammals, research on chickens indicated dietary supplemental vitamin E positively affects reproduction. Previous studies have shown chickens fed corn soybean diets without additional supplementation of vitamin E do not have deficiency syndrome. However, a long period of time (52 weeks) without supplemental vitamin E could reduce the reproductive performance of breeder chickens compared with the diets supplemented with vitamin E. Breeder pullets' diet supplemented with modest levels of vitamin E can improve egg production, hatchability, and fertility. Cockerels' diet supplemented with vitamin E can improve sperm quality but has no effect on their fertility. Further studies are needed to verify its mechanism on reproduction.
