The purpose of this study was to assess the economic feasbility of forest range in Taiwan. It was found that cattle range could be used as a means to control growth of weeds in the earlier stage of man-made forest plantation. Calculation showed that this could save weeding cost by NT$2.000 per hectare annaully which accounted for one- sixth of total weeding cost approximately. Benefit- cost ratio of forest range, taking results from experiments of Lu-Kuei research station, was over 2.0 using a 10 percent discounted rate, but lower than 1.0 if only cattle production revenue was considered. Accordingly, forest range has a high probability to acquire economic return in Taiwan.
