資訊資源類型標示研探

Material Designations for Information Resources

摘要


數位時代資訊傳播科技及網路的快速發展帶來許多新而混合多重的資料類型,如何描述以利辨識、選擇及檢索成為圖書館編目界的重要議題。1997年在Toronto舉辦的英美編目規則原則及未來發展的國際性會議(International Conferenceon the Principles and Future Development of AACR)中,Tom Delsey指出傳統編目規則中資料類型標示(General Material Designation,簡稱GMD)在分類邏輯上的不一致性,摻雜混合資料內容及載體的類型描述,引發各界對資訊資源類型標示的重新檢視。2006年,取代英美編目規則(AACR)的新內容標準RDA(Resource Description and Access)草案擬與ONIX標準相容,推出全新的資訊資源類型標示分類架構及資料項目。筆者研讀相關文獻,擬從英美編目規則資料類型標示的修訂發展探討我國編目規則的未來。結語指出RDA資訊資源新資料要素的分類方式或許比舊版規則更合乎邏輯,然其全面性、精確性及實用性尚有待相關機構的努力。

The rapid development of information and communication technologies brings out new types of materials and the increasing occurrence of mixed media. A number of issues concerning the description, display and function of the general material designation (GMD) become the hot discussions of cataloging rules. In his presentation at the International Conference on the Principles and Future Development of AACR in Toronto on October 23-25, 1997, Tom Delsey pointed the large inconsistency of the list of GMDs. August 2006, in replacing of GMD in AACR, there are three new data elements for content category, media category and type of carrier in RDA draft. By historical literature review, the author tries to investigate the future of GMD and the categorization of content and carrier for information resources.
