The Influence of Dopamine on the Cardiovascular Effects of Shock Plasma

Dopamine

The infIuence of dopamine upon the cardiovascular effects of the shock plasma was studied on the isolated rabbit papillary muscle and superior mesenteric artery. Shock plasma was obtained from rabbits in the terminaI state of hemorrhagic shock. It was found that shock plasma suppressed the contractility of the papillary muscle and increased the tension of the arterial strips. Both the myocardial depressant and the vasoconstricting effects of the shock plasma could be reduced or abolished completely by dopamine. Shock plasma obtained from rabbits pretreated with dopamine had neither myocardiaI depressant nor vasoconstricting effect. Results of the study suggest that dopamine counteracts the action and prevents the production of the cardiovascular acting substance produced by hemorrhagic shock.
