Acute suppurative thyroiditis (A.S.T.) is an uncommon clinical entity of thyroid inflammatory disease. Since 1900 there are only 153 cases of bacterial thyroid infection have been reported, especially during the childhood period. The clinical manifestations are abrupt onset of neck mass, combined with localized erythema, swelling, heat and tenderness, dyspnea and dysphagia. Patients always exist the congenital thyroid fistula, once had respiratory tract infection or other sites infection may induce the disease. It must receive complete check up and treatment, otherwise it may be frequently recurrent. We hereby report this special case of A.S.T., admitted due to neck mass, sore throat and dyspnea, and after a series of examination, the disease was proved. The purpose of this paper is to emphasize the etiology of thyroid suppuration and to discuss predisposing factors, clinical presentation and potential complications. We hope to remind clinicians by this event and the management of such cases.
