The Use of Nonabsorbable Radioisotope Capsule in Detecting Intestinal Transit Time of Dogs-Assessment of Bioavailability

利用經腸不吸收之放射性同位素膠囊測量狗之腸蠕動時間-可行性之評估

摘要

A different method of determining gastrointestinal transit time using a self-made non-absorbable radioisotope capsule is described and is compared with the conventionally well-accepted Hinton's method (1), using 20 radiopaque pellets and X-ray. There is no difference between these two methods in measuring mouth-to-anus transit time of dogs (22.6±3.9 hrs vs. 23.6±2.8 hrs, p>0.2). The localization of an ingested radioisotope capsule is easy and accurate, when compared with the markers on an abdominal X-ray film. The designed radioisotope capsule has the following advantages: (1) it offers a good method of localization of intestinal content as it passes through the gastrointestinal tract, (2) it is easier for handling of the stool if the total gastrointestinal transit time (mouth-to-anus) is measured for physiological study of motility disorders of the GI tract.
