Cancer patients in psychiatric consultation had been studied by National Taiwan University Hospital's 135 patients about 10 years ago. But the study on cancer patients in recent psychiatric consultation condition is quite scarce. This study will focus on the 79 cancer patients within 5 months period referred for psychiatric consultation at Taipei Veterans General Hospital. Result showed the first leading reasons for referral to a consulting psychiatrist was differential diagnosis, 28 patients (35.4%). The second most commonly seen reason for referral was emotional disturbance, 16 patients (20.3%). The psychiatric diagnosis most commomly associated with cancer patients was organic mental disorder, 36 patients (45.6%). Delirium was most commonly seen organic mental disorder, 24 patients (30.4%). The adjustment disorder 14 patients (17.7%) is the second most commonly seen psychiatric diagnosis. Conclusion is the diagnostic distrubution is quite different from the result of NTUH's result about 10 years ago. Detail analysis of this manifestation would be discussed inside this paper.
