The laryngeal mask airway (LMA) is widely used in anesthetic practice for short procedures. Compared with the endotracheal tube, LMA insertion is much easier, and stimulates the patients less. The major drawback of conventional LMAs is that they do not protect the airway from gastric regurgitation and pulmonary aspiration. Here, we report a case of pulmonary aspiration under general anesthesia with a conventional LMA. The management and prevention of aspiration pneumonitis are also discussed.
