Endotracheal T-tube Placement in Treating Relapsing Polychondritis

並列摘要

Relapsing polychondritis is a rare disease of unknown cause characterized by inflammation of cartilaginous structures. The term relapsing polychondritis, first coined in 1960, is a collective name for a group of conditions that include nasal chondritis, polyarthritis, auricular chondritis, and tracheomalacia. We present the case of a 28-year-old male with auricular chondritis and major airway complications. The patient was treated with insertion of a 12 mm endotracheal T-tube, resulting in a considerable improvement in his oxygen saturation. In this report, we discuss the complex etiology of relapsing polychondritis and its treatment, including medical and surgical management.
