Transcutaneous PO2 Measurement in the Detection of Amputation Level - Preliminary Report -

The success of rehabilitation following amputation is directly related to the level of limb loss. Factors determining the ideal level for amputation in a patient with gangrenous foot are many and complicate. In the past years many investigators have been exploring the use of transcutaneous oxygen tension (TcPO2) measurement as a non-invasive means in the determination of amputation level. They found that if TCPO2 at the amputation level higher than 25-40 mmHg, there was no problem in the healing of the wound in the stump. In this report we preliminarily show our experience in this aspect that there was no delayed wound healing in the below-knee (B-K) amputation if the TcPO2 at the amputation level is higher than 16 mmHg.
