Two L3 corpectomized porcine spine were instrumented with three levels and five levels posterior Steffee Plate (VSP) spinal instrumentation. The compression and flexion test were performed under four different compressive preloads,0,25,50,and 75 N.A new designed artificial bone graft was inserted between the corectomized area in order to record Quantitatively the load transfer during the biomechanical testing. The result showed that higher the preload of the bone graft would lead a higher percentage of load-sharing, 60 to 80% load sharing by anterior segment was found in three levels VSP compression test, and 50 to 66% in five levels VSP compression test. In flexion test, only 15 to 20% and 10 to 13% of moment sharing was contributed by anterior segment in three levels and five levels VSP construct respectively. This study introduced a more quantitative method to measure the load sharing pattern in instrumented porcine spine model.
