The treatment of intraarticular calcaneal fracture has been a source of controversy in the past century. However, open reduction and internal fixation is suggested by an increasing number of investigators as preferable method. In our series, twenty-five intraarticular calcaneal fractures in eighteen patients were treated surgically, which included twelve tongue types and thirteen joint depression types, ORIF (open reduction and internal fixation) without bone grafting through extensive lateral approach were used. The mean follow-up period was 22 months (range 14~30 months). The average pre-operative Bohler angle was 4.2 ±8.2, which improved to 23.4±7.2 (P<0.05) postoperatively. According to the Maryland score, there were eight excellent, ten good and no fair results (average maryland score: 88.4±7.0 at the time of follow up ). Complications included one poorly healed wound, one subtalar arthrosis, one varus heel and four lateral heel pain.
