A total of 219 patients with meniscal injuries of the knee joint undergoing arthroscopic surgery were retrospectively andalyzed and evaluated. There were 132 males and 87 females (bilateral tears, 5 males and 3 females). The average age was 31.1 years (ranged from 15 to 64 years old). Young patients were vulner-able to meniscal injuries. The duration between trauma and treatment averaged 2. 1 years (ranged from 3 days to 8 years). This indicated a significant delay in diagnosis and treatment. The lateral meniscal tears outnumbered the medial meniscal tears by a ratio of 1.53 to 1 due to different mechanisms of injury. Patients injuried in the motorcycle accidents had higher incidence of the lateral meniscal tears. The longitudinal tear was the most common type of meniscal injuries, often involoving the posterior segment. Besides, McMurray test provid-ed only limited diagnostic correlation (54.2%). In treating the meniscal injuries, we shouldn’t neglect the associated cruciate ligament injuries.
