Congenital dislocation of patella (CDP) is a rare condition. Early diagnosis and treatment is important for prevention of further disability or degenerative change. We reported a case of 12 year-old girl with weakness in extension of right knee since her childhood. No obvious trauma history was noted. Her active extension of the right knee was weak, but passive range-of-motion of right knee was unimpaired. The radiographs showed laterally dislocated and hypoplastic patella. Surgical treatment was performed with lateral release, medial advancement of patella tendon, relocation of the patella and medial reinforcement of the vastus medialis. Immobilization with the long leg cast for 6 weeks was made after the operation. Forty months later, the patient showed satisfactory improvement of the right knee extension function and regained low speed running function.
