Metadata

Metadata for Organizing Electronic Journals: Feasibility Study

Scholarly journal takes crucial part in predicting growth of discipline, development of subjects and recording paradigm shift in academic community. To academic libraries, journal collections could be the most important and valuable resources. Therefore, organizing and managing both printed and electronic journals properly are essential for library practice. In this study, the author tries to reveal the advantages and disadvantages of using various metadata to organize electronic journals by taking the experiment approach. Several metadata have been investigated in this study, such as MARC, MARCXML, Dublin Core and MODS. How to apply those metadata for information organization and issues of different practices are further discussed.
