本文以薩依德(Edward Said)的理論旅行概念,探討「後殖民理論」在中國的傳播與討論。本文分別從九0年代的三個階段,分析「後殖民理論」在中國如何被讀取以致變形,並說明「後殖民理論」經過「中國語境化」以後,其激進的批判風格與理論主旨已經鈍化,乃至被替代成中國「民族本真論」和「國際對話論」兩個分化趨向。本文指出,後殖民理論原本對中國的「文化解殖」和「文化自我的形塑」具有積極的參照意義。但是基於各種「誤讀」,「後殖民理論」一方面被簡化為呼塵官方話語─「走向世界」─的介入策略,一方面被編寫成一部重返精神家園的鄉愁戀曲,而使得這個積極意義未曾出現。
This article employs Edward Said's concept of traveling theory in order to explore the proliferation and modification of Post-colonial theory in China. The article outlines three relevant phases in the 90s,beginning with an analysis of how China understands and makes use of Post-colonial theory. This article also expounds the process of China's”contextualization”of the theory in order to show that China's radical style of critique has led away from the mainspring of the theory and towards two polarized trends: ethnic authenticity and international dialogue. The article argues that there is a positive meaning of reference in Post-colonial theory's contribution to China's ”cultural decolonization”and”culture self-formation.” However,owing to various misreadings,postcolonial theory,on the one hand,has been simplified and therefore relegated to a response to an official discourse,an officially intervening strategy of”entering into the world.” On the other,such a relegation rewrites the theory as a nostalgic celebration of a return to spiritual hometown, a revision in which the positive reference of meaning never emerges.
