China's regional issues have captured more and more attention in recent years, especially from those who look for investment sites in China and who worry about China's economic disparities and social instability. The literature of the subject thus has been growing very fast. Since the literature evolves rapidly, we have yet to see any systematic reviews that incorporate the latest developments in that area. The paper offers such a research survey. It starts by probing into the significance of regional problems in the context of China studies. Then, the paper goes over the three major “issue areas,” i.e., the central-local relations, the east-west relations, and the north-south relations, and covers their problemetics, approaches, and findings. Of course, it also comes with critiques as well as suggestions. With all these efforts, the paper hopes to call attention to the study of Chinese regional dynamics, an emerging research area in the field of China study.
