This article discriminates the western academic studies on China's policy for international participation under the framework of realism, liberal institutionalism and social constructivism. This article distinguishes four types of literature: value oriented, interest oriented, optimized confrontation and inner based strategy. Overall, the author proposes that existent literature has undergone considerable amount of debate on the topic but neglected discussions on China's ”intentions” for the future. The author argues that studies on such topic may be improved through a large scale, long-term research supported by first-hand information through interviews to complement the impact of change in China's foreign policy of participation.
