C. philippinensis was first discovered in the Philippines in the mid-1960s. Several cases of C. philippinensis have been reported in Taiwan. We report an additional case to draw attention of this clinical entity. A 63 year-old woman was admitted because of chronic diarrhea for one and half year duration, with weight loss. She developed ascites with both lower legs pitting edema due to hypoalbuminemia. During her hospital stay, stool examination revealed adult worms, larvae and eggs in different stages, characteristic for C. philippinensis. She was treated with mebendazole 400 mg/day for 20 days. Her diarrhea stopped 4 days after therapy. Her stool examination was negative for ova and parasites at last follow-up on may 1, 2003.
