To understand mycoplasma pneumoniae responsible for community-acquired pneumonia on campus, A total of 249 sera were obtained from 2 groups of students, included 97 sera from freshmen and 152 from seniors, of a university of northern Taiwan, were analyzed their anti-bodies titers by SERODIA-myco II agglutination test. There were 33.25% of students infected with mycoplasma pneumoniae, and 6.65% of them were belonged to acute infection, but all chest radiographs finding were normal. Compared with the infection by mycoplasma pneumoniae, seniors’ seropositive results were significant higher than the freshmen were (42.8% vs 23.7%, p < 0.001), and the abnormal value of antibodies titer in female was significant greater than that in male (38.8% vs 25.8%, p < 0.001) either. The finding of this study demonstrated that the original inhabited areas of students might be an important factor to disseminate mycoplasma pneumoniae, and located in north counties of Taiwan, the worse in pathogen dissemination. Conclusion, mycoplasma pneumoniae truly is an etiologic pathogen of respiratory system of human on campus, and its infection might be persuading by gender differences and environmental situation.
