Challenged by contemporary humanism, ethics and morality, Confucian philosophy has come up with new forms evolving from traditional values and meanings, in order to address the living world with its modernity, public ness, and character of communication. Thereupon, this paper is to demonstrate that Confucian philosophy combines bioethics, cultural ethics and moral philosophy, with reference to two Confucians, Liu Shu-hsien and Tu Wei-ming. We will also explicate the neo-humanistic immanence of Confucian ethics from the perspective of global ethics. On the other hand, while Du Wei-ming interprets Confucianism as a “doctrine of experience” and uses the framework of “a new type of global social ethics,” we will observe in terms of the modernity of Confucian philosophy and contemplate various possibilities of the modernization of Confucianism, so as to understand how contemporary scholars exploit the new content and meanings of Confucianism.
