Two works of Bernard Lonergan are the basis of this study, Insight: A Study of Human Understanding (1992 [1957]) and Method in Theology (1972). Three functions of philosophy in the religion science dialogue are stressed: (1) an understanding of scientific and religious knowing, (2) providing an adequate understanding of the human person in both science and religion, and (3) providing a methodology and a methodology and a hermeneutic to study a religious tradition.
