This paper is intended to explore how Xun Zi, Han Fei Zi and Mo Zi thought about the following questions: Why is balancing necessary? How to do we balance? And what is balancing based on? Then we try to incorporate the three thinkers' doctrines into one and the same imagined situation so as to examine their sources of values and moral principles before we apply them to modern life and analyze the operative steps of ”balancing” in a profound way. The sources of Xun Zi's, Han Fei Zi's and Mo Zi's values are basically appealing to authorities, while all of Xun Zi's ”Dao,” Mo Zi's ”Heaven” and Han Fei Zi's ”Law” are what we can refer to in order to see our condition today. The principle of survival, the principle of self before others, the principle of virtue, the principle of utilitarianism, the principle of fairness are all what we, based on the motivation of kindness, can refer to in different situations.
