Among Neo-Confucians in the Song Dynasty, Zhang Zai was particularly original and raised many philosophical propositions regarding the development and formation of Neo-Confucianism, related to problem consciousness, conceptual criteria and the correspondence between heaven and man. Seeing Zhu Xi as the comprehensive philosopher of Neo-Confucianism, this article is meant to analyze and narrate how Zhang's Neo-Confucianism made influence on Zhu's doctrine in light of the latter's inheritance and development of qi cosmology.
