The Confucian role ethics proposed by Roger T. Ames, different from the Confucian normative ethics and virtue ethics, does not follow existing ethical principles and virtues. Instead, by dismissing the idea of Confucian transcendence and builds interpersonal relationships in terms of the meanings and functions of family and social roles, which regard relationships as an environment for developing ethical capabilities with openness and variability. The concept of "filial piety" emphasized by Confucian role ethics is the basis of moral education. Maintaining Confucian family relations by filial piety can further construct contemporary family ethics, and provide a reference basis for today's family problems.
