The core thesis of contemporary natural law theories is that law is necessarily a rational standard for conduct. This article distinguishes between the strong and the weak version of the natural law thesis, and discusses three lines of arguments in support of the weak natural law thesis: the legal point of view argument, the speech act argument, and the functional argument.
