The stability of sodium cefazolin and tenoxicam in 5 % dextrose stored at two temperature was studied. Sodium cefazolin and tenoxicam were reconstituted and diluted with 5 % dextrose to form a mixture containing 5.0 mg/mL cefazolin and 0.2 mg/mL tenoxicam. The mixture was stored in l00-mL vented i.v. containers in the dark at 4°C and 25°C; three containers were stored at each temperature. A 2-mL sampie was taken from each container after 2,5,10,24,48,72,96 and 168 hours visually inspected, tested for pH and assayed by a stability-indicating high-performance liquid chromatographic method. Triplicate studied were done for each storage condition. No color change or precipitation was observed in any sample during the study. More than 90 % of the initial concentrations of both drugs remained for 72 hours at 4 °C or for 48 hours at 25 °C. Under the conditions of this study, a mixture of 5.0 mg/mL sodium cefazolin and 0.2 mg/mL tenoxicam in 5 % dextrose was stable for 48 hours at 25°C and for 72 hours at 4°C.
