Salmonella Colitis with Massive Lower Gastrointestinal Bleeding in a One-year-old Boy - A Case Report and Literature Review

A 1-year-old boy with saslmonella colitis developed massive lower gastrointestinal bleeding and impending shock. He was successfully treated by right hemicolectomy and systemic antibiotics. Massive hematochezia is a rare complication of Salmonella infection and can cause life- threatenind hypovolemic shock. Surgical treatment is needed in treating this kind of complications.(Tzu Chi Med J1998:10:77-80)
