A Study on Chromosomal Association in the Parents of Children with Down's Syndrome

並列摘要

For investigating the correlation of acrocentric chromosomes and association in the parents of children with Down’s syndrome, a chromosomal study was carried out on 65 parents of trisomic Down’s syndrome including 29 males and 36 females. The results were as follows: 1.The number of cell with association varied from 42 to 83 per 100 cells, with a mean of 65.9 and 69.9 in paternal and maternal groups respectively. The cells with one group of association were most frequent, and cells with 4 groups the least. 2.The total number of association varied from 54 to 123 per 100 cells, with a mean of 92.1 and 93.6 in paternal and maternal groups respectively. Among associations, double association was most frequent(86%) and sextuple association the least. 3.The numbers of chromosome involved in association varied from 111 to 270, with a mean of 189.5 and 203.8 in paternal and maternal groups respectively. G group chro-mosomes had a greater tendency to be involved in association than D group chromo-somes in both parental groups. 4.Among homologous D group chromosomes, 13-13 association was most frequent in both parental groups. In G group chromosomes, 22-22 association was more frequent than 21-21 association in paternal group, but it was the reverse in maternal group. 5.Among non-homologous chromosomes, G-G (21-22) association was more frequent than D-D or D-G association in both parental groups. 6.Y chromosome is morphologically resemble to chromosomes 21 and 22, but rather rare in involving association. 7.Comparing with normal individuals and Down’s syndrome, the frequency of chromo-somes involved in association was similar to Down’s syndrome in maternal group in D group chromosomes, paternal group was similar to normal individuals, and maternal group was similar to Down’s syndrome. Among homologous chromosomes, the frequency of D-D and G-G associations were similar to those of Down’s syndrome in maternal group.
