Selection and Ultracytochemical Identification of Hyperproducing Strains of Escherichia Coli for Alkaline Phosphatase

The strains of Escherichia coli hyperproducing alkaline phosphatase were selected in a chemostat in the medium with Pί as the growth limiting factor. The specific activity of the enzyme in these strains was 80-fold higher in comparison with the parental strain. These findings were supported by ultracyto-chemical localization of alkaline phosphatase activity in the surface glycocalyx structures of hyperproducing bacteria.
