Advances in Agrobacterium Mediated Transformation in Tomato-an Overview

並列摘要

Tomato is one of the important vegetable crops and has been the efforts of numerous biotechnologies during the past two decade. Different Agrobacterium mediated genetic transformations were reported involving regeneration by organogenesis from different explants. The integrated approaches of genetic engineering of tomato have been of great value because of its commercial values. Indeed, more recently tomato is the subject of new areas of research including functional genomics, proteomics, and metabolomics. For the successful application of these new approaches to improve agronomic traits in tomato a reliable and reproducible transformation technique is essential. Henceforth research in the improvement of existing or the establishment of new transformation protocol is essential. The present review is an attempt to summarize the outputs of published report by different authors and further emphases on the potential areas of research for tomato improvement were also given.
