Acute respiratory distress syndrome is a major cause of death in patients with influenza A infection. Immunocompromised host, diabetes mellitus, pregnancy and obese are risk factors for severe complicated influenza. We report a 35-year-old multigravida women at 34 weeks of gestation with acute respiratory distress syndrome caused by influenza A virus who was successfully treated by extracorporeal membrane oxygenation. We further discuss about the current treatment of acute respiratory distress syndrome, the use of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation in acute respiratory distress syndrome and the current evidence about corticosteroids in influenza A related acute respiratory distress syndrome.
