工業工程教育暨研究之展望

The Direction of Education and Research in Industrial Engineering

摘要


本文首先介紹工業工程,回顧它的發展過程,再談到工業工程的現況與未來展望,結尾提出幾點看法希望能作為大家討論的話題:工業工程教育的定位、學科的規模、學生的最適當學位、以及各學系宜採行的策略計畫。我們要做的是立定目標做一流的工業工程師,而不是二流的數學家、二流的社會學家、或二流的製造工程師,這樣才能找到我們的定位。我們必須體認社會的需求、被社會接納,那才算是找到我們的定位。【本文係由第四屆亞太工業工程與管理系統研討會(Conference of Asia-pacific Industrial Engineering and Management Systems)的大會專題演講翻譯而成。該演講由中華民國國科會贊助,於2002年12月19日在台灣臺北發表,英文版也將由IIE於2003年5月份的”Industrial Engineers”發表。】

This paper is written based on the keynote speech, sponsored by the National Science Council, R.O.C., that was presented at the APIEMS’2002 on December 19, 2002, in Taipei, Taiwan. In this paper, it first gives an introduction to industrial engineering, then reviews its past, and finally addresses both the current status and the future of industrial engineering. In conclusion, several thoughts are brought up with the hope that one would look into the niches of the industrial engineering programs, how many industrial engineering degrees to offer and what the optimal degree is, and what the strategic plans are for the industrial engineering departments to take and to follow. In order to have our own niches, we need to be first class industrial engineers, not second class of mathematicians, second class of sociologists, second class of manufacturers or others. In order to have niches, we need to recognize the community and to be recognized by the community.
