The purpose of this study was to evaluate the correlation between pattern identification and prognosis in stroke patients with conscious disturbance. Fifty-five critical stroke patients with conscious disturbance and having onset within 1 week were enrolled from the medical intensive care unit and neurological ward of Far Eastern memorial hospital for a prospective observational study. The results demonstrated that the prognoses from good to poor are block pattern, block-desertion mixed pattern, and desertion pattern in block-desertion pattern identification. The significant prognoses from good to poor are yang block pattern, block-desertion mixed pattern, and yin type of desertion pattern in block-desertion-yin-yang pattern identification. Larger groups of patients are necessary to draw the conclusion.
