The seedling pushing mechanism is one of the important component sets of a rice transplanter. This mechanism usually consists of a cam, a spring and a pushing rod. The cam which dominates the timing for pushing rice seeding plays an important role in transplanting operation. In the first part of this study, the analysis of the cam profile of a Yu-Nung transpanter was undertaken. The displacement, velocity, and acceleration of the cam-follower was derived. In the second part, a cubic spline equation was modeled to synthesize the profile of the cam to minimize the acceleration/jerk of pushing rod while the precise time of pushing seeding is maintained.
