The purpose of this research is to develop an automatic milk meter of dairy cow which is applicable for dairy farm environment in Taiwan. The milk meter can integrate automatic milk harvesting equipments such as milk electric conductivity measurement system. Automatic milk meter is an efficient equipment for udder health monitoring and milk quality detection of a dairy farm. The milk meter was developed using constant volumetric measuring mode. When the milk level goes up to touch the electrode, the electromagnetic valve will open to release the milk about 200 ml. The total milk is calculated as the accumulation of the discharged milk and plus the compensation. The proper opening time of the electromagnetic valve is about 0.492 to 0.655 sec according to simulation results run in laboratory. Results of field tests for this automaticmilk meter conducted at milking parlor showed the designated functions of measuring and cleaning could be successfully achieved.
