摘要

本論文探討網絡結構對於跨國高科技知識擴散與流動的影響。以往的研究指出在企業創新過程中，社會網絡對於技術知識的擴散、知識的移入帶來相當大的影響。但有關多國行動者的網絡結構對知識擴散的影響，卻相對付之闕如。本研究針對美國矽谷的開放性網絡結構在台灣的積體電路產業發展所扮演的角色，與日本的封閉性網絡結構在台灣液晶顯示器產業發展扮演的角色進行比較分析，探討美國、日本的網絡結構對台灣此兩種產業整體性影響為何。歸納相關廠商的訪談後發現，台灣積體電路產業與美國矽谷之間的技術知識交流，受到(1)美國開放性人才；(2)資訊流通網絡結構；(3)留美歸台學人創業；(4)技術學習移轉等社會資本以及(5)美國開放的技術授權等關鍵技術移入路徑影響。但在液晶顯示器與日本電子大廠之間的技術知識移轉，卻受到(1)日本封閉性勞動力網絡結構；(2)資深日籍退休人員的直接聘僱；(3)長期性的信任關係的社會資本以及(4)併購策略等重要技術移入路徑所影響。

This article deals the effect of network structure on the cross-national knowledge diffusion. It proposes that the differences of network structure among US, Japan and Taiwan has a profound influence on the introduction of foreign technical knowledge and know-how in Taiwanese IC and TFT-LCD industry. Special attention is given to the comparative analyses between the effect of Silicon Valley's network structure in Taiwanese IC industry and Japanese counterparts in Taiwanese TFT-LCD industry. Based on the cross-national field research the analysis reveals the essential differences of network structure between US and Japan exerts strong influence over the introduction path of technical knowledge and know-how from US and Japan, respectively. For example, the open structure of the American industrial network facilitates the knowledge diffusion to Taiwanese IC industry through social capital of the start-up, technological learning by returnees from US and American technology licensing in an open way. However, due to the closed structure of the Japanese industrial network, social capital of Japanese technical advisors, long-term trust relationships and M&A are playing important roles in the knowledge diffusion path from Japan to Taiwanese TFT-LCD industry.
