摘要

過去數十年來，經濟發展與政治民主間之探討吸引了相當多的學術研究興趣。然而，一般傳統的研究習慣於將經濟發展與政治民主間之關聯性視為是一單方向的傳遞過程－政治民主化的程度是隨著社會經濟福利的繁榮進步而提升；本文卻認為經濟發展與政治民主兩者皆只是一自主性國家機制為了達成國家發展目的所為之策略性選擇途徑。因此，經濟發展與政治民主間的關聯會隨著國家自主能力的調整而有所變動。

The relationship between economic development and political democracy has trapped lots of academic attention during the past decades. Conventional perspective to the development-democratization relationship has stressed a single-direction approach of from socioeconomic progress to political democracy. However, this paper treats both development and democratization as strategic choice shaped by an autonomous state to meet the priority of national development. As a result, it is concluded that the development-democratization relationship is contingent on the condition of state autonomy.
