分岐光纖網路之監測技術

Branched Fiber Network Optical Monitoring Technology

摘要


光通訊系統中的主要介質-光纖,經常會受到外力的影響,如溫度、應力、甚至於天災人禍而彎曲受損(Bandy)或斷裂,造成光訊號的損耗(Loss)增加或中斷,因此無論是剛鋪放完成之光路或者處於工作狀態下之光網路,對於光纖光路之量測工作是不可或缺的。傳統光網路對於光纖狀態的診斷,常使用光時域反射儀(Optical Time-Domain Reflectometry; OTDR)來完成,但是由於光時域反射儀的特性及物理上的限制,在分岐性之光網路上有其量測的困難點,尤其在目前光接取網(Optical Access Network)使用不同分歧路徑(Branch)的被動光網路(Passive optical Network; PON)架構上,使用1×N光分配器(Optical Splitter),會對OTDR造成的高插入損耗(Insertion Loss),也讓OTDR需使用更高的脈衝寬度(Pulse Width)以達到所需量測距離而降低鑑別力。本文即在討論如何在此-特殊光網路中進行監測之技術,以及未來面對分波多工(Wavelength Division Multiplexing; WDM)架構之被動光網路的監測提出解決方案。

The optical fiber is the main physical transmission media of the optical communication system. The fiber is often effected by the outside environment, like pressure and temperature. Sometimes, the fiber would be curved and damaged by the human beings or the disasters. It will cause the optical power loss, even the loss of the signals. Monitoring the optical signals in the fiber is a necessary job for the deployment of the new optical fiber communication system. The monitoring of optical signal in traditional optical network often uses the OTDR equipment. It is hard to measure and detect the errors in the PON network due to the physical limitation of the OTDR. This paper will discuss about how to process the issue of monitoring the PON and WDM-PON network and finding out the suitable solution.
