本論文提出了增益平坦化(Gain-Flattened; GF)二級摻鉺光放大器(Erbium Based Fiber Amplifier; EBFA)模組,其分別是利用一個摻鉺光波導放大器(Erbium-Doped Waveguide Amplifier; EDWA)與一個摻鉺光纖放大器(Erbium-Doped Fiber Amplifier; EDFA)串接所組成。波長操作範圍在1528nm至1562nm之間,並輸入-25dBm大小功率的光信號之下,我們可觀察到其所有的增益(Gain; G)會大於35dB,並且其噪聲指數(Noise Figure; NF)會分佈在5.5至6.7dB之間;此外,我們同時達可到±1.1dB的增益差異量於此波長操作範圍間。我們所提出之光放大器不僅可以提高其增益值,同時亦可以達到增益頻譜的平坦化之效能。此外,我們同時也提出一個寬頻之混合雙級光纖放大器模組,它是利用-C-頻帶之摻鉺光纖放大器和-C-頻帶之半導體光放大器(Semiconductor Optical Amplifier; SOA)串列所形式。在本篇論文中,我們使用一個3m長的摻鉺光纖(Erbium-Doped Fiber; EDF)為前級放大器,它是用以增加我們所提出的光模組之增益及減少其躁聲指數。因此,我們所提出的混合式光放大器可以達到由1500 nm到1610 nm寬的放大頻寬(即可從S-頻帶至L-頻帶)。此外,我們所提出的光纖放大器其增益與躁聲指數之頻譜的效能也會於此論文上討論並分析。
We propose and demonstrate experimentally a gain-flattened two-stage erbium-based fiber amplifier (EBFA) module, structured by an erbium-doped waveguide amplifier (EDWA) and an erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) in serial. In an operating range of 1528 to 1562nm, all the gain is above 35dB and noise figure is distributed from 5.5 to 6.7dB, and±1.1dB maximum gain variation is retrieved for the input signal power of -25dBm. As a result, the proposed amplifier not only enhances the gain value but also possesses the flatness in the operating region. Moreover, a broadband hybrid two-stage fiber amplifier module, constructed of a C-band erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) and a C-band semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) in serial, is also proposed. In this section, we use a 3m long erbium-doped fiber (EDF) for the pre-amplifier to increase the gain and reduce the noise figure. Therefore, the proposed hybrid amplifier achieves a 110nm effective amplification bandwidth of 1500 to 1610nm (from S-to L-band). In addition, the performance of gain and noise figure in the proposed fiber amplifier has also been discussed.
