多重十億位元乙太網路上的服務品質保證機制

QoS in Multi-Gigabit Ethernet

摘要


隨著各種接取技術的發展,終端使用者享有超過1Gbps之傳輸資料頻寬,不再是遙不可及的夢想。現今各種FTTx的技術如乙太被動光纖網路(Ethernet Passive Optical Network;EPON)、十億位元被動光纖網路(Gigabit-capable Passive Optical Network;GPON)等,皆已逐漸成熟;但是,即使在高頻寬的網路,仍然存在著服務品質保證(Quality of Service; QoS)的問題。各式不同的應用服務(Services)或訊務(Traffic),例如影像、聲音或是資料等,對於傳輸延遲、所需頻寬等要求均迥然不同。因此,如何能夠區分各種服務的特性,並且符合用戶之服務水準協定(Service Level Agreement; SLA),解決接取網路上服務品質之問題,將是多重十億位元乙太網路上的一大挑戰。本文將以乙太被動光纖網路為例,說明在Gigabit以上等級之乙太接取網路上,所面臨到的QoS問題,並討論相關之解決方法。

With the development of access technology, it becomes realistic to access Internet with bandwidth more than 1Gbps. In fact, access technologies nowadays, like EPON and GPON, are growing not only mature but also popular. However, having high bandwidth does not imply high quality services. The transmission requirement for various applications differs from one another. In this case, how to identify and provide control over these services while satisfying service level agreement (SLA) becomes a critical issue, especially for multi-gigabit Ethernet-based access network. In this paper, we address the aforementioned QoS problems in detail with EPON technology as an example. Moreover, corresponding solutions are provided as well.
