Handover in DVB-H Broadcast Network

摘要


DVB-H的移動管理可以被細分成兩個層面,第一個是handover,第二個則是roaming;本文主要探討的是DVB-H廣播網路上handover的技術。由於在DVB-H的終端裝置上,不一定會擁有雙向無線網路模組的存在(例如:3G或WiMAX),因此,DVB-H廣播網路上的handover方式,是一種terminal-initiated handover。基本上,DVB-H的handover技術,是由傳統DVB-T的handover技術衍生而來的。不過,由於DVB-T上的節目是透過MPEG-2 transport stream傳送的,但DVB-H上的節目則是透過IP-based protocol傳送的,因此,原本DVB-T上的handover技術,必須針對在DVB-H廣播網路上的IP位址解析方式進行擴充。此外,在DVB-H終端裝置上針對handover所監測的參數,也是專為DVB-H廣播網路所評估選擇的。在本文中,我們將會說明DVB-H廣播網路上handover技術的原理、流程及相關的運作參數。

Mobility management of DVB-H can be further divided into two aspects: The first one is handover, and the second one is roaming. In this paper, we discuss a technical approach for handover on DVB-H broadcast networks. Since bi-directional wireless network modules (e.g. 3G or WiMAX) may not be available on a DVB-H terminal device, the approach for DVB-H handover belongs to terminal-initiated handovers. In fact, the approach for DVB-H handover is derived from the approach for handover on traditional DVB-T broadcast networks. However, since the TV programs of DVB-T are transmitted via MPEG-2 Transport Stream, and in contrast the TV programs of DVB-H are transmitted via IP-based protocols, the technical approach for DVB-T handover has to be extended to accommodate IP address resolution over DVB-H broadcast networks. In addition, the handover parameters monitored on a DVB-H terminal device are also specific to the DVB-H broadcast networks. This paper explains the rationales, flows and parameters for DVB-H handover.
