高效能手持式行動裝置之節能技術介紹

Introduction of Energy-efficient Technology in High-performance Mobile Platforms

摘要


隨著手持式裝置的快速發展,用戶對產品功能也有更多的要求,既要能處理影音多媒體、隨時收發電子郵件、又要具備執行3D遊戲的能力,因此高畫質(GPU)、高效能(CPU)的晶片已成為手持式產品強調的重點之一。但伴隨高運算能力而來的則是增加了系統的耗電,要解決這樣的問題,除了加大電池容量外,開發兼顧省電及效能的處理器已是手持式裝置及晶片廠商無法廻避的挑戰。本文主旨在介紹ARM新一代晶片省電技術big.LITTLE架構,藉由高效能的Cortex-A15、節能省電的Cortex-A7處理器核心,結合可處理快取一致性的CCI-400匯流排,再搭配適當的軟體技術,組成big.LITTLE系統,通過這些實現技術,ARM提供了一種可取得高性能和低耗電平衡的解決方案。

With the rapid development of the handheld device, there are many requirements in the product features. The user wants to handle multimedia, e-mail at any time, and sometimes they want to play 3D games. Therefore, high-definition (GPU), the high-performance chip (CPU) has become one of the handheld emphases. The system accompanied with high computing performance consumes more power. To solve this problem, the most direct way is to increase the battery capacity. There are many challenges for handheld device and chip manufacturers to overcome the power saving and performance simultaneously. In this paper, we focuse on the analyses and discussions of the ARM new generation of chip power-saving technology - big.LITTLE architecture. The system is constructed by high-performance Cortex-A15 and energy saving Cortex-A7 with cache consistency CCI-400 bus. And then with the appropriate software technology, it can achieve energy saving purposes. Through these implementation techniques and the variety of use-models, big.LITTLE provides an architecture that achieves high performance and low power consumption balance simultaneously.
