The most common accepted definition of rhinitis is that formulated by the ICR of in 1994 stating that ”rhinitis is defined as inflammation of the lining of the nose, characterized by one or more of the following symptoms: nasal congestion, rhinorrhea, sneezing and itching”. A definition of rhinitis based only on the presence of symptoms may be imprecise for clinical practice and epidemiological study and needs to be revisited.
