慢性鼻竇炎患者之嗅覺功能分析

Assessment of Olfactory Function in Chronic Rhinosinusitis

摘要

BACKGROUND: To assess the correlation between self-rated olfactory function and measured olfactory function in the chronic rhinosinusitis population.METHODS: A prospective study. 124 chronic rhinosinusitis patients were enrolled from a tertiary referral hospital. Medical records, including chief complaint, past history, and physical examinations were obtained. The patients also completed a questionnaire about self-rated their olfactory function (such as complete loss, worse than normal, normal, and better than normal) and visual analog scale (from 0 to 10). Then they received a modified ”Sniffin's Sticks” olfactory test.RESULTS: There was a significant correlation between the self-rated olfactory function and measured olfactory function . There was also the same relationship between visual analog scale and measured olfactory function. The sensitivity was 79.5% (62/78), the specificity was 63.0% (29/46), the positive predictive value was 78.5% (62/79) and negative predictive value was 64.4% (29/45) in the self-rated olfactory function. However, age did not affect the results of self-rated olfactory function and visual analog scale.CONCLUSION: The self-rated olfactory function and visual analog scale were two effective and convenient methods to assess the olfactory function in chronic rhinosinusitis population.
