Human Papillomavirus-from Cervical Cancer to Head and Neck Cancer

With the increasing awareness of the risk of smoking and betel nut chewing for head and neck cancer, as well as increased tobacco taxes and oral mucosa screening activity, the incidence of head and neck cancer in Taiwan reached its peak in 2014 and then began to decrease every year. However, the incidence of oropharyngeal cancer related to human papillomavirus (HPV) has increased; therefore, this issue is even more important. This article reviews the current status of human papillomavirus prevention and treatment in cervical cancer, summarizes the research on HPV-related head and neck cancer in Taiwan in recent years, and provides a future perspective on HPV in head and neck cancer.
