One hundred and fifty normal newborns and twenty eight premature infants were examined for disc coloration and cupping. Among these normal newborns, 56.7% was found to have pink discs and 68% found to have some degree of cupping. By examining the optic discs of the premature infants, 50% of these infants was noted to have pink discs and 64.3% noted to have some degree of cupping. Owing to the percentage of pink discs in premature infants and normal newborns was 50% and 56.7% respectively, it seemed possible the disc coloration of the fetus might change gradually from pale-grey color to pink color. The optic disc in normal newborns was described as having a pale-grey color in the past, it was possible too much pressure applied during examination was the cause.
