摘要

臨床上，遇有長期眼部不適，結膜充血之患者，常診斷為慢性結膜炎，使用含抗生素的眼藥來治療。但是由102位此類患者，結膜囊細菌培養之結果，與56位正常人比較，發現二者並無明顯差別；顯示這些患者中，只有少數是由細菌感染引起的。由抗生素敏感性試驗之結果顯示，對於一些常用的抗生素，如penicillin，tetracycline，amplcillin等，許多細菌都已產生抗藥性。所以使用這些抗生素於慢性結膜炎患者，並無多大意義與價值。

A patient with chronically congested irritable eyes is frequently diagnosed as chronic conjunctivitis, and antibiotic eye-drop or ointment is prescribed routinely. However, the results of bacterial culture from 102 such patients show no significant difference as compared with that of 56 normal persons. The results of antibiotic sensitivity test of the isolated bacteria reveal a very high resistance rate to the commonly used antibiotics, such as: pencicillin, ampicillin, and tetracycline. These suggest that bacterial infection is not the main cause of symptons in these patients and penicillin or tetracycline is not usefull in treating patients who have chronic congested eyes.
